A view of Earl's Regency, a stay in Kandy

Earl's Regency

Earl's Regency is a luxury hotel in the tea covered hills of Kandy, the last royal capital, where history and tradition remain strong. Its interiors carry a local touch, with decor inspired by the old royal kingdoms.

Planning your stay

Kandy is about three hours by road from Colombo, or a scenic train ride. The city sits around a lake, and the Temple of the Tooth is busiest at the evening puja. During the Esala Perahera, usually in July or August, rooms book up early. Dress modestly for the Temple of the Tooth, covering shoulders and knees, and leave shoes at the entrance. Evenings in Kandy are cooler than on the coast.

Why stay here

It suits families and travellers who prefer a resort with space and facilities, a short drive from the busy city centre.

Things to do nearby

Visit the Temple of the Tooth, the Royal Palace, Kandy Lake and the Bahirawakanda Buddha, or walk in Udawattakele forest.

How to Get There

Earl's Regency is beside the Mahaweli river at Thennekumbura, on the road east of Kandy. From Bandaranaike International Airport it is about 115 km by road, about 3 hours 15 minutes, travelling on the Central Expressway and then the Kandy road through Kegalle.

From central Colombo the journey is about 125 km and takes about 3 and a half hours.

As of October 2026, trains from Colombo run again as far as Peradeniya and Gampola but not into Kandy station itself, so most visitors come by road.

To keep arrival simple, ask us for a private transfer with a chauffeur who meets you outside arrivals. You can keep the car for touring afterwards. Times are approximate and depend on traffic, especially around Colombo.
