Where to stay in Sigiriya: a view of the area

Hotels in Sigiriya

Staying in Sigiriya means you can be at the gate when it opens, before the heat and the tour buses. The hotels are spread across a few kilometres of farmland and forest around the rock, so think about whether you want a rock view, a quiet nature setting or simply good value.

Hotels in Sigiriya

Close to the rock

Hotel Sigiriya is the closest on our list, near enough that you can see the rock from the pool. Sigiriya Village, with about 120 cottages, is a short drive away with the rock as its backdrop. Both make sense for an early climb of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress or Pidurangala at sunrise.

Luxury in a natural setting

Jetwing Vil Uyana is built around a man-made wetland, with villas over the water and among paddy fields; its name means "garden of lakes". Sigiriya Jungles and Aliya Resort and Spa are both set in forest and farmland with views back to the rock.

Mid-range and wellness

Camellia Resort and Spa, Oak Ray Elephant Lake and Fresco Water Villa are comfortable mid-range hotels within about 15 minutes of the rock. Kaveri Ayurveda Resort has 18 rooms and a well-regarded Ayurveda spa, and is family-friendly.

Plan around the heat

The climb is about 1,200 steps, and most of it is exposed. Go at opening time or in the late afternoon, and bring water. Dambulla's cave temples are about 30 minutes away, and the Minneriya and Kaudulla elephant parks are also within easy reach.
