How to Get There

Hill Safari sits among the tea estates at Ohiya, about 7 km from Horton Plains National Park. The airport at Katunayake is around 200 km away, about 6 hours by car, travelling through Ratnapura and Balangoda, then up the Haputale pass.

From central Colombo the journey is about 190 km and takes about 5 hours 45 minutes.

As of October 2026 the hill country line is closed between Kandy and Nanu Oya after Cyclone Ditwah, so the trip from Colombo is by road. Trains do run between Nanu Oya, Ella and Badulla if you are coming from elsewhere in the hills.

Bubble Sri Lanka Holidays arranges private transfers from the airport and from anywhere in the country, with the option of keeping the car and chauffeur for your whole stay. Allow extra time at weekends and on public holidays, when the roads out of Colombo are busier.
