Planning your stay
Unawatuna is about ten minutes from Galle Fort and roughly two hours from Colombo on the expressway. Its sheltered bay is good for swimming, and the season on the south coast runs from about November to April. Unawatuna is also a good base for day trips along the south coast to Koggala, Mirissa and the turtle hatcheries.

How to Get There
You will find Apa Villa on the beach at Thalpe, east of Unawatuna. The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport covers roughly 160 km and takes 2 and a half hours or so, travelling via the Southern Expressway to Galle, then a few kilometres east on the coast road.
From central Colombo the journey is about 130 km and takes about 2 hours.
The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.
To keep arrival simple, ask us for a private transfer with a chauffeur who meets you outside arrivals. You can keep the car for touring afterwards. Allow extra time at weekends and on public holidays, when the roads out of Colombo are busier.
