Planning your stay
Galle is about two hours from Colombo on the Southern Expressway. Inside the fort everything is within walking distance, and the beaches of Unawatuna and Mirissa are a short drive away. The south coast is driest from about November to April. Galle Fort is best explored on foot in the early morning or late afternoon, when it is cooler; the ramparts are a favourite place to watch the sunset.

Galle beach, the lighthouse, the harbour, Galle Fort and the National Maritime Museum are all within 1 to 3 km. Take high tea at Amangalla, visit the Kanneliya rainforest, or swim at Unawatuna.

How to Get There
Tamarind Hill is in Dadella, just north of Galle. From Bandaranaike International Airport it is about 145 km by road, about 2 hours 15 minutes, travelling via the Southern Expressway, which ends a few kilometres from the town.
Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 1 hour 45 minutes for roughly 115 km.
The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.
