Why stay here
It suits couples and families who want a quiet beach base on the south west coast, with turtles nesting nearby and good food on site.
More about the area
The beach in front of the hotel is known for nesting turtles, and the hatchery nearby lets you see them up close. Galle, Hikkaduwa and Bentota are all within an easy drive, so the hotel works well as a base for exploring the south west coast while returning to a calm beach each evening.
Planning your stay
Ahungalla is on the south west coast between Bentota and Hikkaduwa, about an hour and a half from Colombo by expressway. The sea is calmest from about November to April. Turtle hatcheries, the Madu river mangroves and the mask workshops of Ambalangoda are all within easy reach.
Things to do nearby
Visit the turtle hatchery, a few minutes away, take a Madu river safari ending with a fish spa, see mask making at the Ariyapala workshop in Ambalangoda, go whale watching in Mirissa, or walk the ramparts of Galle Fort.

How to Get There
The Habitat sits beside the sea at Kosgoda, a few kilometres north of Ahungalle and close to the turtle hatcheries. The airport at Katunayake is around 115 km away, about 2 hours by car, travelling via the Southern Expressway, then west to the Galle Road.
Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 1 hour 30 minutes for roughly 80 km.
The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.
To keep arrival simple, ask us for a private transfer with a chauffeur who meets you outside arrivals. You can keep the car for touring afterwards.
