Planning your stay

Galle is about two hours from Colombo on the Southern Expressway. Inside the fort everything is within walking distance, and the beaches of Unawatuna and Mirissa are a short drive away. The south coast is driest from about November to April.

Things to do nearby

Walk the Galle Fort ramparts at sunset and explore its lanes, museums and churches. Take high tea at Amangalla, go diving, or visit the Kanneliya rainforest.

How to Get There

Fort Bazaar is inside Galle Fort, on Church Street. From Bandaranaike International Airport it is about 150 km by road, about 2 and a half hours, travelling via the Southern Expressway, which ends a few kilometres from the town.

From central Colombo the journey is about 120 km and takes about 2 hours.

The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.

To keep arrival simple, ask us for a private transfer with a chauffeur who meets you outside arrivals. You can keep the car for touring afterwards. Road times are a guide only and can vary with traffic and weather.
