Why stay here
Staying in a working tea landscape, inside the old factory itself, is one of the most memorable hill country experiences. It suits travellers who enjoy walking and quiet, with cool evenings and wide views.
Planning your stay
Nuwara Eliya is in the hill country, about two and a half hours from Kandy and five to six hours from Colombo. At around 1,900 metres it is cool all year, and nights can be cold, so bring warm clothes. Nuwara Eliya is known as Little England for its colonial buildings, golf course and racecourse, and April is the busy holiday season for Sri Lankan visitors.

How to Get There
Heritance Tea Factory sits on the Hethersett estate at Kandapola, about 45 minutes by road from Nuwara Eliya town. The airport at Katunayake is around 180 km away, about 5 and a half hours by car, travelling either through Kandy and Ramboda or through Avissawella and Hatton, both climbing through tea estates for the last part.
If you start in Colombo, it is around 175 km, about 5 hours 15 minutes on the road.
As of October 2026 the hill country line is closed between Kandy and Nanu Oya after Cyclone Ditwah, so the trip from Colombo is by road. Trains do run between Nanu Oya, Ella and Badulla if you are coming from elsewhere in the hills.
Bubble Sri Lanka Holidays arranges private transfers from the airport and from anywhere in the country, with the option of keeping the car and chauffeur for your whole stay. Road times are a guide only and can vary with traffic and weather.
