Planning your stay
Kandy is about three hours by road from Colombo, or a scenic train ride. The city sits around a lake, and the Temple of the Tooth is busiest at the evening puja. During the Esala Perahera, usually in July or August, rooms book up early. Dress modestly for the Temple of the Tooth, covering shoulders and knees, and leave shoes at the entrance. Evenings in Kandy are cooler than on the coast.

How to Get There
Oak Ray Regency sits on the hills above Kandy, on the Peradeniya side. The airport at Katunayake is around 105 km away, about 3 hours by car, travelling on the Central Expressway and then the Kandy road through Kegalle.
Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 3 hours 15 minutes for roughly 115 km.
As of October 2026, trains from Colombo run again as far as Peradeniya and Gampola but not into Kandy station itself, so most visitors come by road.
Bubble Sri Lanka Holidays can arrange a private car with an English speaking chauffeur for your arrival and departure, or keep the same driver with you for the rest of your trip. Allow extra time at weekends and on public holidays, when the roads out of Colombo are busier.
