Yala is famous for leopards, elephants and birdlife, and Kumana, further east, is known for its birds. Close to the hotel, visit the Tissamaharama stupa, the sacred town of Kataragama and the rock monastery of Sithulpawwa.
Good to know
Yala safaris usually run in early morning and afternoon sessions, and the hotel's excursion desk can help arrange a jeep. Part of the park has often closed for a period around September and October, in the driest time of year, so check before you plan. The drive from the airport takes about 5 hours via the expressway.

How to Get There
EKHO Safari sits in Tissamaharama, about 20 km from the Yala park entrance. The airport at Katunayake is around 280 km away, about 4 hours 45 minutes by car, travelling via the Southern Expressway and its extension towards Hambantota, then on through Tissamaharama.
From central Colombo the journey is about 250 km and takes about 4 hours 15 minutes.
To keep arrival simple, ask us for a private transfer with a chauffeur who meets you outside arrivals. You can keep the car for touring afterwards. Times are approximate and depend on traffic, especially around Colombo.
