Planning your stay
Beruwala is about an hour and a half south of Colombo. Its sheltered bay and calm sea from about November to April make it popular for family beach holidays and Ayurveda stays. Beruwala is said to be the site of one of the first Muslim settlements on the island, and the Kechimalai mosque stands on the headland.

How to Get There
Heritance Ayurveda Maha Gedara is on the beach at Beruwala. From Bandaranaike International Airport it is about 105 km by road, about 2 hours, travelling via the Southern Expressway, leaving it near Welipenna for the coast.
From central Colombo the journey is about 65 km and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.
The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.
We can book a private air conditioned transfer from the airport or anywhere in Colombo, and the driver can stay with you for the rest of your holiday if you wish. Times are approximate and depend on traffic, especially around Colombo.
