Planning your stay
Hikkaduwa is about two hours from Colombo by the Southern Expressway or the coast road. The beach season, with calmer sea for snorkelling, runs from about November to April. The coral reef close to the shore is a protected marine sanctuary, so snorkel with care and do not stand on the coral. Glass bottom boats also run trips over the reef.

How to Get There
Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon sits on the beach at Hikkaduwa. The airport at Katunayake is around 140 km away, about 2 hours 15 minutes by car, travelling via the Southern Expressway, then a short drive to the coast.
Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 1 hour 45 minutes for roughly 105 km.
The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.
