Mount Lavinia Hotel

Mount Lavinia Hotel is one of the best known historic hotels in Sri Lanka, on a headland above Mount Lavinia Beach, a short drive south of central Colombo. The original building was built in the early 19th century as a residence for the British governor Sir Thomas Maitland, and the hotel keeps much of its colonial character, with long verandas and sea views.

Location and things to do

The beach in front of the hotel becomes a lively place to eat and drink in the evening, with seafood restaurants along the sand and the lanes behind it. Swimming is only advisable at certain times of year; ask the hotel about sea conditions. The Dehiwala Zoo is nearby, and central Colombo is about 30 to 45 minutes by road. How to Get There

Mount Lavinia Hotel is on the headland at Mount Lavinia, about 12 km south of the Fort. From Bandaranaike International Airport it is about 45 km by road, about 1 hour 15 minutes, travelling down the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway into the city.

Taxis and ride hailing apps work well for getting around the city from here.
