Overview
Eagles' Golf Links is an 18-hole course at China Bay in Trincomalee, run by the Sri Lanka Air Force. It sits beside the water, with views over the inner harbour bays, and is the best-known course on the east coast.
The course
The course covers around 171 acres and plays to a par of 72. Rolling ground, sand bunkers and water hazards make it a fair test, and the sea breeze adds a challenge. The Air Force manages it, and proceeds support welfare for Air Force personnel and their families.
Playing
Visitors can book a round. Caddies, ball spotters and club hire are available on request. Green fees change, so check current rates with the club before you go. The clubhouse has food and drinks and some accommodation.
How long it takes
About four hours for 18 holes.
When to go
The east coast is driest from about May to September. Early morning tee times avoid the heat.
Getting there
China Bay is about 15 to 20 minutes from Trincomalee town, close to the Air Force base. Marble Beach, also run by the Air Force, is nearby.
Practical tips
- This is a military area; carry ID and follow instructions at the gate.
- Do not photograph military sites.
- Bring sun protection and water.
After your round, relax at Trincomalee beaches or go whale watching. Golfers may also like Victoria Golf near Kandy. See things to do in Trincomalee and Trincomalee hotels.
