Life on the beach in front of the villa is part of the charm. Fishermen often offer their catch of the day, the rock pools hold colourful fish and lobsters, and at night you may be lucky enough to see turtles coming ashore to lay eggs.
Planning your stay
Mirissa is about two and a half hours from Colombo on the Southern Expressway. Whale watching boats run mainly from about November to April, which is also the best beach season on the south coast. Whale watching trips leave early in the morning, and the sea can be rough, so take seasickness tablets if you need them and choose an operator that follows the whale watching guidelines.

How to Get There
Villa Atulya at Ocean's Edge is on the shore at Mirissa. From Bandaranaike International Airport it is about 180 km by road, about 3 hours, travelling via the Southern Expressway, then a short drive down to the coast.
From central Colombo the journey is about 155 km and takes about 2 and a half hours.
The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.
