Planning your stay
Hatton is in the tea country, about four hours from Colombo. It is the usual base for climbing Adam's Peak, whose pilgrim season runs from about December to May. Nights are cool, so bring warm layers. Climbers usually set off for Adam's Peak at about 2 am to reach the summit for sunrise, so plan an early night and a rest the next afternoon.
Things to do nearby
Climb Adam’s Peak, see St Clair’s Falls and Devon Falls, or visit a tea factory.

How to Get There
You will find Craig Appin by Jetwing on a tea estate near Hatton. The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport covers roughly 140 km and takes 4 hours or so, travelling through Avissawella and Kitulgala, then up into the tea country.
Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 3 hours 45 minutes for roughly 130 km.
As of October 2026 the hill country line is closed between Kandy and Nanu Oya after Cyclone Ditwah, so the trip from Colombo is by road. Trains do run between Nanu Oya, Ella and Badulla if you are coming from elsewhere in the hills.
Bubble Sri Lanka Holidays can arrange a private car with an English speaking chauffeur for your arrival and departure, or keep the same driver with you for the rest of your trip. Times are approximate and depend on traffic, especially around Colombo.
