It suits architecture lovers and anyone wanting a full service resort with character a few minutes from Galle Fort. The great spiral staircase in the entrance, with its sculpture of a battle, is worth seeing in itself.
Planning your stay
Galle is about two hours from Colombo on the Southern Expressway. Inside the fort everything is within walking distance, and the beaches of Unawatuna and Mirissa are a short drive away. The south coast is driest from about November to April. Galle Fort is best explored on foot in the early morning or late afternoon, when it is cooler; the ramparts are a favourite place to watch the sunset.

Food and drink
The Cinnamon Room is a dinner-only fine dining restaurant serving seafood. Cardamom Cafe is a 24 hour diner with buffets. How to Get There
You will find Jetwing Lighthouse on the rocks beside the sea at Dadella, just north of Galle. The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport covers roughly 145 km and takes 2 hours 15 minutes or so, travelling via the Southern Expressway, which ends a few kilometres from the town.
Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 1 hour 45 minutes for roughly 115 km.
The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.
To keep arrival simple, ask us for a private transfer with a chauffeur who meets you outside arrivals. You can keep the car for touring afterwards. Road times are a guide only and can vary with traffic and weather.
