How to Get There

The Mountain Heavens sits on the hillside just above Ella town, facing the Ella gap. The airport at Katunayake is around 210 km away, about 6 hours by car, travelling through Ratnapura, Balangoda and Haputale, or on the longer but faster route via the Southern Expressway and Wellawaya.

Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 5 hours 45 minutes for roughly 200 km.

As of October 2026 the hill country line is closed between Kandy and Nanu Oya after Cyclone Ditwah, so the trip from Colombo is by road. Trains do run between Nanu Oya, Ella and Badulla if you are coming from elsewhere in the hills.

We can book a private air conditioned transfer from the airport or anywhere in Colombo, and the driver can stay with you for the rest of your holiday if you wish. Road times are a guide only and can vary with traffic and weather.
