Overview

The Colombo Lotus Tower, about 350 metres tall, dominates the city's skyline. Its design is based on the lotus flower, a symbol of purity in Sri Lankan culture. The tower was built for telecommunications and leisure, and opened to the public in 2022. It is often described as the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia.

What you see and do

The main attraction is the observation deck, with views over the whole city: the Beira Lake, Galle Face, the port, Pettah and, on clear days, the hills far inland. There is also Pixel Bloom, a digital exhibit, and a revolving restaurant at the top that is booked separately.

Tickets (2026)

As of October 2026, foreign visitors pay US$20 per adult and US$10 per child aged 3 to 10, charged in rupees. The price is the same for the observation deck alone or the combo with Pixel Bloom, so choose the combo. Children under 3 go free. Tickets are for a set date and time slot and are not refundable. Bring your passport.

Opening hours

The tower is open from 9am, closing around 10pm on weekdays and 11pm at weekends, with ticket sales ending an hour earlier. Hours can change on special days.

How long it takes

One to two hours; longer with a meal.

When to go

An hour before sunset is ideal: daylight views, sunset and the city lights. Skip it on grey, rainy days, as tickets are not refunded for poor visibility.

Getting there

The tower stands by the Beira Lake on D. R. Wijewardena Mawatha, between Pettah and Slave Island, a short tuk-tuk ride from Colombo Fort.

Practical tips

  • Book online in advance at busy times.
  • Arrive 15 minutes before your slot.

Combine it with Beira Lake and Galle Face Green. See things to do in Colombo and Colombo hotels.

Prices are as of October 2026 and may change.
