Why stay here

It suits travellers who want a comfortable hotel in the middle of Hikkaduwa's beach life, with the reef, cafes and seafood restaurants all along the strip.

More about the area

Hikkaduwa's reef is protected as a marine sanctuary, so glass bottom boats are a good way for non divers to see the corals and fish. In the evenings the beach strip comes alive with cafes, seafood grills and, on some nights, beach parties, all within a short walk of the hotel. Day trips to Galle and the Madu river are easy to arrange.

Planning your stay

Hikkaduwa is about two hours from Colombo by the Southern Expressway or the coast road. The beach season, with calmer sea for snorkelling, runs from about November to April. The coral reef close to the shore is a protected marine sanctuary, so snorkel with care and do not stand on the coral. Glass bottom boats also run trips over the reef.

Things to do nearby

Rent boards or gear for surfing and snorkelling on the reef, or take a glass bottom boat ride. Try the street food and nightlife, take a Madu river safari, or visit Galle Fort.

How to Get There

Citrus Hikkaduwa is on the beach at Hikkaduwa. From Bandaranaike International Airport it is about 140 km by road, about 2 hours 15 minutes, travelling via the Southern Expressway, then a short drive to the coast.

Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 1 hour 45 minutes for roughly 105 km.

The coastal railway from Colombo Fort also runs along this shore, a slower but scenic alternative if you travel light.

We can book a private air conditioned transfer from the airport or anywhere in Colombo, and the driver can stay with you for the rest of your holiday if you wish. Times are approximate and depend on traffic, especially around Colombo.
