Planning your stay
Hatton is in the tea country, about four hours from Colombo. It is the usual base for climbing Adam's Peak, whose pilgrim season runs from about December to May. Nights are cool, so bring warm layers. Climbers usually set off for Adam's Peak at about 2 am to reach the summit for sunrise, so plan an early night and a rest the next afternoon.
Things to do nearby
Climb Adam’s Peak, see Devon Falls and St Clair’s Falls, or visit a tea factory.

How to Get There
You will find Governor's Mansion in the tea country between Hatton and Talawakele. The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport covers roughly 145 km and takes 4 hours or so, travelling through Avissawella and Kitulgala, then up into the tea country.
Coming from central Colombo instead, allow 4 hours for roughly 135 km.
As of October 2026 the hill country line is closed between Kandy and Nanu Oya after Cyclone Ditwah, so the trip from Colombo is by road. Trains do run between Nanu Oya, Ella and Badulla if you are coming from elsewhere in the hills.
To keep arrival simple, ask us for a private transfer with a chauffeur who meets you outside arrivals. You can keep the car for touring afterwards. Times are approximate and depend on traffic, especially around Colombo.
