Talalla Retreat is a boutique resort on the beach at Talalla, west of Dickwella. It had barely been built when the 2004 tsunami struck, and was rebuilt with funds raised and the help of local people, many of whom were then employed there. It has close ties with the neighbouring villages and focuses on yoga, surfing, pilates and boxilates.

Planning your stay
Tangalle is on the deep south coast, about three hours from Colombo by expressway. Its beaches are quieter than those further west, and the best season is from about November to April. Some beaches here shelve steeply and have strong currents, so check with locals before swimming.

How to Get There
Talalla Retreat sits at Talalla bay, between Dickwella and Matara. The airport at Katunayake is around 195 km away, about 3 hours by car, travelling via the Southern Expressway past Matara, then the coast road.
From central Colombo the journey is about 170 km and takes about 2 hours 45 minutes.
We can book a private air conditioned transfer from the airport or anywhere in Colombo, and the driver can stay with you for the rest of your holiday if you wish. Allow extra time at weekends and on public holidays, when the roads out of Colombo are busier.
